Founded in 1943, the Korean Language Program at Berkeley is the oldest in the States and has a history of excellence in serving the diverse needs of language-learning students. Our mission is to continue our excellence in serving students by empowering them with the linguistic skills and cultural insights they need to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world, and one in which Korean language and culture has an increasingly important influence. We are dedicated to improving language proficiency and cultural competency through an innovative and immersive language curriculum. We strive, moreover, to develop translingual and transcultural competence and foster a sense of community while we equip our students with the tools they need to succeed academically, professionally, and personally. By adhering to our core values of excellence, cultural appreciation and accessibility, we foster an inclusive and diverse learning community while enriching the lives and expanding the horizons of all of our students.
